The Phases to True Healing:
The Victim
Suffering sexual abuse at the hands of another. Nearly 1 in 5 women, 1 in 3 young girls and 1 in 5 young boys have been sexually abused in the United States.*
*Statistics from The Advocacy Center and the NSVRC
The Survivor
Breaking the vicious cycle of abusing and trying to move forward. This stage can manifest itself in several ways from anger, to becoming very withdrawn, to PTSD, to promiscuity, and in some cases, becoming an abuser. Sadly, many are unable to ever move past this stage.
The Advocate
Finding a peace and healing within yourself to the point where you can help other victims and survivors. Being able to find happiness in life and even intimacy again. It is only in this final phase that survivors of abuse, and society as a whole, can find true healing and become true defenders of those in need. This is the process discussed in Love, Me Too.
